MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is the practice of purposefully being present in the here and now, moment by moment. Much of our stress comes from ruminating about what has gone before, when that can’t be changed, or worrying about what is next when there are simply too many moving parts to be able to effectively predict what will happen. While we are concerned with the past and the future we miss out on the joys of right here, right now and this is the one place we have some control over.

The practice of mindfulness either through formal meditation practice or informal daily activities can help us learn how to shift our attention and focus. It helps us to accept our experiences, event unpleasant one rather than react to them with aversion and avoidance.

Through continued practice mindfulness has been proven to help with stress, anxiety, depression, pain management, greater focus and improved relationship.

As well as individual sessions we also offer a certified eight week mindfulness programme.

WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE?

Mindfulness can be practiced in many ways but your teacher will work with you to tailor the experience to suit your needs and goals. Essentially, the aim of mindfulness is to achieve a state of alert, focused relaxation by deliberately paying attention to thoughts and sensations without judgment. This allows the mind to refocus on the present moment.

In your mindfulness session you may will be taught a range of techniques including basic mindfulness meditations such as sitting and focussing on the breath or a silent mantra that you return your focus to when your attention wanders, allowing your thoughts to come and go without judgement.

Focussing on body sensations and sensory experiences such as sights, sounds, scents, taste and touch and allowing emotions to be present without judgment and learning to cope negative emotions or urges by acknowledging them and letting them pass without becoming hooked in by them.
