SPACE TO CHANGE

When you want to make positive changes in your life like overcoming fears and phobias, boosting self esteem or breaking bad habits, Hypnotherapy can help. Recognised by the NHS as a complementary therapy that can help with a range of physical, emotional and cognitive issues, it works by reprogramming negative thoughts, patterns and behaviours. It can also help you to achieve your goals by removing barriers and creating or strengthening positive qualities.

The possibilities really are limitless, and can range from helping someone with diabetes overcome a needle phobia, to aiding with fertility and childbirth, to helping a CEO with a crippling fear of public speaking deliver engaging and confident presentations.* If you can use your imagination, then you can enter a state of hypnosis. However, it always works best when you are highly motivated and really want to make the change because it’s not about trying to force yourself to do something you don’t really want to!

While everyone’s experience of hypnosis will be different, it is commonly described as being in a very calm, physically, and mentally relaxed state, in which you are able to focus on change and are open to experiencing life differently. It can be compared to being completely engrossed in a film or book where you forget about your surroundings and are deeply involved in the story, yet if the door bell rang you could easily get up to answer it.

There are many misconceptions about Hypnotherapy, but in reality it is a very relaxing and positive experience. You are not in a deep sleep and although very relaxed you remain in control and fully aware of your actions. Ultimately, hypnotherapy involves you being guided into a relaxed state where you can tune out the daily routine, worries and concerns of your conscious mind and access the subconscious mind that is more open to change.

We offer two types of Hypnotherapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy which can be integrated with counselling and stress management practices and Hypno-CBT® combining CBT and Hypnotherapy for cognitive and behavioural changes.

WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE?

We offer face to face sessions from our Frederick Street office and can, in some cases accommodate online Hypnotherapy via Zoom. For online sessions you will require a stable internet connection, a quiet environment and a comfortable chair or settee. You will not need to see the therapist but the therapist will need to see you.

Each session lasts around 60 - 90 minutes and significant change can take place after a single session, particularly if combined with counselling or stress management programmes. For deeper or more complex issues four to six sessions are usually recommended. Your therapist will discuss your individual circumstances and recommend the appropriate number of sessions before commencing.

All of our sessions are carried out by our qualified and registered Clinical Hypnotherapist and Hypno-CBT® Practitioner who will work with you to define your goals and help you make the changes to reach them. They will then make suggestions to you while you are in a state of hypnosis that will involve making changes to your thought processes, behaviours or actions to deliver more positive outcomes. Your therapist may also ask you to participate in skills training outside of hypnosis to help you make positive changes.

Prior to Hypnotherapy taking place, your therapist will ask you to fill in a consultation form and discuss your background and the history of your issues. Depending on your circumstance your therapist may use a blend of other techniques such as NLP, EDMR or tapping to help relax you before Hypnotherapy begins.

You will then be guided into relaxation and will follow a guided visualisation which is very similar to following a guided meditation. You may participate in exercises whilst under hypnosis, re-visit past events or be asked to think about future events. Your therapist will then make suggestions to your subconscious mind and you will be able to talk to your therapist throughout hypnosis. You will then be gently brought out of hypnosis where you can then talk about your experience and ask any questions.

Your therapist will discuss your session with you and you may then go on to use other techniques or therapies to reinforce Hypnotherapy or address anything else that may have arisen. You may be given information and further resources to take away with you or be given homework to support you.
